It has come to my attention that a colleague of mine needs to sell his double bass.
Unfortunately due to illness the owner who had taught the instrument for many a year has retired and wishes to sell..
- to pass it on to another musician's hands.

I know it is an excellent instrument and perfect for palying solo, jazz or "classical" music.
It is in marvellous condition and is truly a worthwhile cause.
Please spread the word and help a friend in need. If you are interested yourself, or know of anyone who would like to purchace this bass please reach him at
contrabass63@gmail.com

I thank for your support.
and in appreciation I leave you with some pieces featuring (or by) double bass players I take joy in hearing.

A wonderful project fathered by Steve Swell

To quote the man behind the "Nation of We"

« Just 15 days to be part of this great project!! Please check out the site. Thank you!! (...) less than $200 to reach our goal! Please help these great musicians get a decent payday.» Steve Swell

It is definitely a worthy cause, and I wish it the utmost success.

Extremism - food for thought

©
G. Almeida
(self portrait)

(English & Português)

Although I find he does not necessarily contemplate transnational forces, actors of extreme power in my opinion - such as those that move through organizations one of which is the IMF, and the impact of half of the "HUMAN" planet
(China & India ..., actually all the BRICS, as they are about to change the IMF itself in the year to come) ,
Mr. Maajid Nawaz's lecture is not only a powerful and healthy critique regarding Western thought/democracy, but an interesting (helpful) perspective when one begins to think of the day's age with all the organizations he mentions (and rightly so) spreading so efficiently. It is refreshing and quite pertinent to the clash and change that is occurring upon "civilization(s)" as we know it.

- He does speak of the assassinated Benazir Bhutto when mentioning a face of ''democratic leaders in Pakistan when he speaks of the few faces of democracy in that part of the globe. What he says regarding the supplying a demand/desire for democracy from the ground up, as opposed to only being concerned with leaders, rulers and their class - and neglecting the ruled larger masses, or rather - The People if you will, is particularly poignant and apropos.

I do feel we are and have been for a while  (the world is..)  at a crossroads in terms of civilization(s).. , and that action as always by far surpasses cognition in terms of speed.
The ball is rolling yet it has but begun its trajectory.

I have much on my mind regarding this but, it would take far too long for me to write or you to read.. and my particular thoughts in the matter are not important in my opinion.

I now leave you with the Video - clip where he speaks of
«Ideals + Narratives + Symbols + Leaders = Social Movement»
(Right below the Portuguese text that follows, written in blue)

Embora ele, Maajid Nawaz, não me parece estar a contemplar algumas forças

(video - legendas em FR - LINK with FR subtitles/ Ligação)

In contrast, I also leave something that causes me to wonder greatly at how FILTER BUBBLES hinder or help propagate said Social movement in the recent past and present.
Filtros.. (provindos de algoritmos... )
Originally, I was going to write about how we are harmed by that which is allegedly meant to help us through the existence of algorithms that seem to shape all access to information among other things. I'll leave it to a later date.
